What Is Argan Oil?
Argan oil is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), which grows almost exclusively in southwestern Morocco. The argan tree is so important to Morocco’s ecosystem and Berber culture that UNESCO has designated the Argan Biosphere Reserve as a World Heritage Site. Producing argan oil is extremely labor-intensive — it takes one woman an entire day to produce just one liter of argan oil by hand.
What Makes Argan Oil Special for Skin?
Argan oil contains an exceptional combination of skin-beneficial compounds. Oleic acid and linoleic acid (fatty acids) deeply moisturize and repair the skin’s lipid barrier. Vitamin E (tocopherol) — present in much higher concentrations than in any other plant oil — fights oxidative damage. Polyphenols neutralize free radicals and reduce inflammation. Ferulic acid protects against UV damage and brightens skin tone.
Benefits for Skin
Anti-Aging: Daily use of argan oil significantly increases skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In one study, postmenopausal women who used argan oil daily saw a 49% improvement in skin elasticity after 60 days.
Acne Treatment: Despite being an oil, argan oil is non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores) and has antibacterial properties that fight acne-causing bacteria. Its sebum-regulating effect makes it ideal for oily skin.
Hyperpigmentation: Argan oil’s Vitamin E and ferulic acid brighten skin tone and fade dark spots caused by sun damage, hormonal changes, and acne scarring.
Eczema and Psoriasis: The anti-inflammatory fatty acids reduce itching, redness, and flaking associated with eczema and psoriasis.
Benefits for Hair
Argan oil seals the hair cuticle, reducing frizz and adding shine. It protects hair from heat damage (apply before blow-drying). It treats a dry, flaky scalp when massaged in. It strengthens brittle hair and reduces breakage.
How to Choose Quality Argan Oil
Look for 100% pure argan oil in dark glass bottles. The color should be golden-yellow — not colorless (that’s been over-processed). It should have a mild, slightly nutty scent. Price matters — very cheap “argan oil” is usually diluted with other oils. Our Argan Oil Face Serum contains pure, cold-pressed argan oil with no dilution or additives.
